Intro to Tai Chi Begin your journey into the wonderful world of Tai Chi. Feel at ease as you harness your inner strength and feel a calm state of mind.  An easy-to-follow guide to learning the basic positions and moves of Tai Chi.
Intro to Tai Chi Class

"Hi, I'm Andy. As a Tai Chi Master, I invite you to experience a calm state of mind with the beautiful, poetic movements of Tai chi. Follow my step-by-step guide so you can feel at ease and fully enjoy the experience. 

This online interactive class has been adapted from an outdoor activity to an accessible indoor practice so everyone can do it even with the limited space available in their own home.

Tai Chi is a slow and low impact exercise for you to enjoy at any time. There are a few points we would like you to be aware of before we start practising:

  • Make sure you have some space to move around
  • Have some water with you to keep you hydrated
  • Make sure you are on a flat surface
  • Bare feet are recommended if you are at home
  • If you wish to wear shoes, make sure they have a non-slip sole.

Meet the instructor Andy Yau
Andy Yau studied his Masters in Arts at Birmingham City University. His passion and expertise in Tai Chi began in his birth place, Hong Kong, 12 years ago. Andy is proud to teach Tai Chi at The Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. “There will always be a point of balance in everything. It up to us to find it and apply it in everything we do.”

Benefits of Tai Chi Chuan, a multicomponent type of exercise, include:

WHO recommends that people 65 years or older should aim to do multicomponent exercise at least 3 times a week. If you are new to any exercise, start by doing small amounts and adjust how much you do based on your fitness and strength levels.
